Voted Best Cat Rescue Shelter in Britain by Pet Plan/Cats Magazine,
Maggie & Pete Morrison, first started animal rescues 30 years ago and have been vegans for the same number of years.
The Shelter operates from their home and has been placed first for six awards. Pet Plan/Cats Magazine voted the
Animals at Risk Shelter the Best Cat Rescue Shelter in the U.K., five times winner of Luton in Bloom Floral Display (Business Premises) and the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire presented them with the Good Citizenship award for the service given to senior citizens with their companion animals, which help with tasks that they (Senior Citizens) are unable to do by themselves.
The shelter handles a mixture of animals, about 500-600 a year; and the shelter has a no-kill policy at our shelter ?unless the quality of life has gone.
...Want to make a donation?...
Gift Aid increases the value of donations to UK charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) by allowing them to reclaim basic rate tax on your gift. If you pay higher rate tax you can claim extra relief on your donations. If you claim age-related allowances or tax credits, Gift Aid donations can sometimes increase your entitlement.
By completing a simple Gift Aid Declaration form, charities are able to reclaim the Income Tax on your donation.
The Gift Aid scheme is for gifts of money by individuals who pay UK tax. Gift Aid donations are regarded as having basic rate tax deducted by the donor.
Charities or CASCs take your donation - which is money you've already paid tax on - and reclaim basic rate tax from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) on its 'gross' equivalent, i.e., the amount before basic rate tax was deducted.
Basic rate tax is 20 per cent, so this means that if you give £10 using Gift Aid, it's worth £12.50 to the charity. For donations between 6 April 2008 and 5 April 2011 the charity or CASC will also get a separate government supplement of 3p on every pound you give.
Contact the individual charities of your choice to ask for a Gift Aid Declaration form.
Vernacular buildings - the houses and workplaces of past generations - are disappearing every day from the landscape. In the Chilterns, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on London's doorstep, the pressures are particularly great. Chiltern Open Air Museum preserves and interprets the built heritage of the Chilterns that would otherwise be lost.
The Museum was founded in 1976, with the aim of rescuing threatened buildings and re-erecting them on our forty-five acre site of natural park, meadow and woodland, thereby preserving a variety of structures of historical or vernacular interest which are typical of the region.
Featuring living history re-enactments, demonstrations and hands-on activities for all the family.
